The 11th International Conference – ESPERA 2024
Transformational drivers of national economies. Developing policy options and tools tailored to targeted reforms
Bucharest, 17th – 18th October 2024
The aim of the international conference ”Economic Scientific Research – Theoretical, Empirical and Practical Approaches”- ESPERA, initiated in 2013 by the National Institute for Economic Research ”Costin C. Kirițescu” (NIER), is to present and evaluate the economic scientific research portfolio, to argue and substantiate the Romanian development strategies – including European and global best practices. The 2024 edition of the Conference will be held on 17th – 18th October, under the title: ”Transformational drivers of national economies. Developing policy options and tools tailored to targeted reforms”.
The event program addresses a wide diversity of themes, bringing together researchers from all NIER institutes and centres, members of the Romanian Academy and also guests, from Romanian universities and from other countries, including master, PhD and post PhD students.
Researchers are encouraged to present papers of scientific research regarding, as much as possible, the recent and current salient topics of international economic and geopolitical environment, drawing out foreseeable medium and short-term developments and questioning related structural reforms, based on an examination of the transformational drivers underlying the evolution of national economies and seeking to identify the most appropriate policy tools and actions, depending on spatial particularities and specific circumstances.
Multiple economic challenges facing all countries, to a greater or lesser extent, such as post-pandemic adversities, the energy crisis, high inflation and elevated monetary policy rates, shorter supply chains and fewer intermediate inputs, rising protectionism and trade restrictions, vulnerability to geopolitical tensions and unpredictable events, which are requiring new policy levers and tools to overcome them and secure a better future for national economies and societies.
First and foremost, however, a new economic vision should underpin the transitional growth model aiming higher value-added, synergizing the transformative changes driven by technological advance, including generative AI, with sustainability and resilience, conditions that have proven to be critically important in the face of external shocks.
The proceedings are intended to approach relevant theoretical and practical aspects of the world economy developments and its drivers, with a particular focus on new analytical framework, polarizing industrial policies due to renewable manufacturing bases, digitalization and green transition, managing disinflation to target, recovery of productivity growth, more investments, including in human capital, improving educational performance, fiscal sustainability and budgetary capacity to deal with future adverse shocks, curbing the rise of public debt, cross-asset tail risks deriving from potential liquidity events, more efficient multilateral coordination.
Even if many of the papers deal with these aspects from the perspective of the impact and relevance of the analyzed aspects from the point of view of the Romanian economy and society, through the significant number of foreign authors participating in each of its previous editions, the ESPERA International Conference has demonstrated that it provides a favorable framework for debates and exchange of experience and good practices with representatives of the academic environment, researchers and teaching staff from other countries, both from the European Union and non-EU countries.
The International conference proceedings is dedicated mainly for professionals, researchers, decision makers, but also for all interested parties – academia, practitioners, PhD and post PhD students and a broader public audience – providing valuable knowledge about the world economy latest developments and its foreseeable evolvement, understanding transformational drivers of national economies and developing strategies, policies and tools adequate to the related reforms.
The Conference is intended as a thought-provoking exercise for researchers and it is organized in such a way as to provide an academic platform for debates, covering the broadest approaches, enabling an interactive exchange of ideas and the latest results and findings, including those emerged in economic science arising from both fundamental and empirical researches and promoting evidence-based policy making new vision under crisis circumstances.
The contributions and views that will be expressed, on a meritorious and wide-ranging level, will be disseminated, as in previous years, in a volume – Proceedings of the International Conference ESPERA 2024, that will be submitted to EBSCO and also for evaluation and inclusion in Conference Proceedings Citation Index by Clarivate, Web of Science.
The Conference includes an additional section dedicated to master, PhD and post PhD students, thus providing a conducive framework for scientific debate and their training.
One of the novelties of the 2024 edition of the ESPERA International Conference is that the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund from Romania (FGDB) became our partner. In this context, Romanian master and PhD students can opt to enter the competition for the FGDB awards within the ”Costin Murgescu” Competition for research, which reached its anniversary 13th edition this year.
